There are, to me, only two problems with this book...

1) The annoying need to find fuel so often. Couldn'tcha have taken more than a SINGLE CANISTER at the beginning? Duh.
2) The trip home is so short. You have all these exciting encounters going from New Hope to San Anglo, and then when you turn around -- what, everyone just melted away due to the fame of the "Freeway Fighter" busting up narkies and wasteoids on the way down? I don't buy it.

That being said, I love the "You ARE Mad Max" feel of this book.Bosk of Port Karhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05382836168231297724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3640929554503965005.post-83360545231985044742022-04-15T23:43:41.276+01:002022-04-15T23:43:41.276+01:00PS - So striking reading this in 2022, especially ...PS - So striking reading this in 2022, especially the third paragraph of your review from 2015:
"...A future which, now, is not all that far off given that the book is set in 2022"

A post-apocalyptic world decimated by a viral pandemic, fuel an expensive commodity in short supply, limited access to medical treatment.

Maybe we should all give Ian Livingstone's plot more credit for its prophetic vision. Sheer escapism and less taxing on the brain than some of the more heavyweight classics. Agree with the comments about the internal art, although some of the illustrations captured the craziness of the characters well; I seem to recall Animal and also the pistol duel character came across well in the art. The original cover though, was superb even by today's standards. Not the best FF in terms of canon, but possibly the most fun and I loved the post-apocalyptic atmosphere.Andy Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17609963927512138745noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3640929554503965005.post-60666049752056381092021-08-09T11:04:26.719+01:002021-08-09T11:04:26.719+01:00Listening to the playthrough on the Fantastic Figh...Listening to the playthrough on the Fantastic Fights podcast, I was surprised at the quality of the descriptive text and tightness of the new mechanics - really good! In the end, the book wasn't terrible, but it felt like a missed opportunity. I can handle the lineality, but the car combat felt bland. It was just like any other FF combat, but by a different name. The American Car Wars car - car combat was hard work to keep track of, but had a lot more depth. I'd have liked to have seen more of a middle ground.
