The title of the act is "Voyage of Enigma", as in an enigmatic voyage. But when I was 12 I couldn't gather together an adventuring party Willing to play through it.
So when I found a copy years later, I was all set to adapt it to D&D or Savage Worlds. Alas, when I read it as an adult I hated it. The four sections didn't hang together at all, it's too linear and the humour grates, feeling smarmy and over-wacky. The only bit I'm ever likely to re-use is the bit when you're in the gut of a giant creature disguised as a temple.Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05903993127360160864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3640929554503965005.post-36294163383704383422018-06-24T13:12:05.417+01:002018-06-24T13:12:05.417+01:00Recently played this for my group in AFF 2nd Editi...Recently played this for my group in AFF 2nd Edition and they loved the quirkiness and the fact it was not a standard Dungeon crawl. The Reaver has popped up again in other adventures a bit like QMatt and Clairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17049949332391819112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3640929554503965005.post-84741342453414270172016-04-15T09:00:54.818+01:002016-04-15T09:00:54.818+01:00About 22 years ago i gathered a group of guys toge...About 22 years ago i gathered a group of guys together to try it out. Started out around 6pm or so, and ended at 5am in the morning, all in a single sitting. Nobody wanted was allowed?) to leave. I had six guys, i let them make their own character into whatever they wanted. I didnt care much about the game mechanics, but i tried to fix the story as i went along and it went incredibly good. I started adding npcs to the group, even those they were meant to kill. Towards act 4 they were a small army and i determined pretty much how the npcs acted. The end was an epic battle, players were commanding a small army with massive fire power and the reaver had a few thousand worth of skeletons in jello. i killed everyone off till i was left with one guy who had the boss battle. Let him have a hard one victory, while the other guys cheered him on. And when it ended, i let an npc (a monkey he picked up from act 2 i think) survive just so that he could walk into the sunset with a friend. I ran it once through a few years later during secondary school lunchtimes, with an ever expanding group - and have borrowed bits&bobs from it in other campaigns (living tattoos!). Ultimately I allowed the players to climb trailing ropes and board the escaping Reavers airship, which of course was on fire from their firebolts or something they had fleeced during the quest, and crashed into the jungle. This book is probably why I now own three cheeseplants.
Gamekeeper Jim JamesAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12911821584168950794noreply@blogger.com
